Micro-Influencers with Nate’s on Marsh Turned Open Seats to Booked Tables

The Challenge

San Luis Obispo is not a city that warms up to new restaurants overnight. It’s a tight-knit community with deep loyalty to its institutions – the places that have been there for decades, where everyone knows the owner and the regulars hold court at the same table every week.

Nate’s on Marsh was the newcomer in that landscape. And they weren’t trying to blend in – they were doing things differently, from the menu to the atmosphere, in a market that has plenty of beloved legacy spots. The challenge wasn’t just awareness. It was earning genuine community buy-in for a restaurant that hadn’t yet had the chance to prove itself to the people who matter most in SLO.

Word-of-mouth would come eventually. They needed to accelerate it.

The Approach

We designed an influencer program built entirely around community credibility – not reach for reach’s sake, but trust.

We handpicked 10 micro-influencers with audiences deeply rooted in SLO: locals who eat out, talk about it, and whose recommendations actually carry weight with the people Nate’s wanted walking through the door. These weren’t outside voices being imported to endorse the brand. They were members of the community we were trying to reach.

Rather than bringing everyone in together, we invited each creator in separately – giving them the full Nate’s experience on their own terms, at their own pace. The goal was authentic storytelling, not a coordinated campaign moment. Each visit was its own real evening: great food, great drinks, the kind of dinner worth talking about. No scripts, no staging. Just the experience doing the work.

The content that came out of it felt exactly like that – real, personal, and native to how people in SLO actually share recommendations with each other.

The Results

  • 11.2% engagement rate – well above industry benchmarks
  • 43,000 views on campaign content
  • 4,000 engagements across the campaign
  • 47 pieces of owned content for Nate’s to use going forward
  • The restaurant was filled with the exact local audience they needed to reach

A few weeks after the campaign wrapped, we got a call from Nate. “I’m looking around the restaurant last night, and every table is filled with ladies 25-50. It’s working.”

In a community where trust is earned slowly, the right voices saying the right things moved the needle fast.
